The Associated Students of the University of California, San Diego are the elected and appointed representatives of the UC San Diego student body. The ASUCSD works to promote student engagement through its services and leadership opportunities. The ASUCSD seeks to foster a cohesive community through active interaction and communication with students, the administration, and the greater San Diego Community. Our mission is to facilitate and encourage students to grow and develop through their involvement in student government, its services and auxiliaries. We promote student engagement in all areas of campus life through leadership, advocacy, and service in order to build and strengthen our community.

The AS Office of External Affairs shall work to educate the UC San Diego student body about issues regarding higher education and provide students opportunities to engage with other UC campuses and state and federal stakeholders. The Office shall serve to advocate for the enhancement of the University of California system through efforts of its own and those of the University of California Student Association. The Office of External Affairs shall achieve these means through working with multi-campus partners, legislators, and others and shall oversee the efforts of the Office of Local Affairs, the Student Organized Voter Access Coalition, and the Triton Lobby Corps.

Duties of the Vice President of External Affairs:

  • Serve as an Executive Officer for ASUCSD
  • Represent and advocate for the needs of the UC San Diego students
  • Manage and oversee the External Affairs Office, including the following positions: Legislative Director, Organizing Director, Associate Vice President of Local Affairs, Triton Lobby Corps, and more
  • Attend ASUCSD Assembly and Senate meetings
    • Assembly meets from 4:00PM-4:30PM
    • Senate meets starting at 6:00PM
  • Serve as the official External Vice President ASUCSD Representative on the University of California Student Association ( This includes:
    • Attending monthly UCSA Board Meetings
    • Attending quarterly meetings with the UC Office of the President
    • Attending upwards of one phone call meeting a week with members of UCSA
    • Attending the UC Board of Regents Meetings as needed
    • Maintaining good standing and positive relationships with the UCSA Board Members
  • With the support of members of the External Office, the VP External shall organize student delegations to attend UCSA conferences
  • Meet regularly with members of the External Affairs Office
  • Propose the annual budget for the External Affairs Office
