Annika Manlutac

Social Sciences Senator

Hi everyone! My name is Annika Manlutac and I'm your Social Sciences Senator for the 2019-2020 academic year! I'm a third-year Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience major under the Department of Psychology! I'm a born and bred San Diegan and a commuter from Chula Vista (but at least I have Tacos El Gordo and National City). I work at the Registrar's Office and have sat on the Student Council of ERC as the very first Basic Needs Advocate. This year, as Social Sciences Senator, I will be focusing on officially putting together Students of the Social Sciences. For this reason, if you are a social science student and have thought about creating an academic student org, go for it! The SSS is designed to be a space for social science student leaders to collaborate and get their voices heard by the division's administration as well as AS! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about social sciences! I would be more than happy to help you! Committees I sit on: - Legislative Committee - Standing Rules Committee - Admissions Committee - Representative Assembly If you have any questions about what these committees are or how I represent you, please reach out! I look forward to representing the Social Sciences this year!

Weekly Reports

Week Summary
01-08-2020

Outreach Hour

For this week's Outreach Hour, and to start off the quarter, I actually got to discuss attending various Social Science student organization meetings with their respective presidents and boards. While this week's outreach focused on executive members, I'm hoping that it'll open up an avenue for me to directly attend meetings that my constituents are interested in, and to meet people directly instead of waiting for students to come to me.

Senator Project Updates

In tandem with organizing Outreach Hours, my discussions with the current executive boards of Social Science organizations on campus is being moved forward. While I am still waiting on a few more responses, I'm excited to see more organizations being interested in participating in Students of the Social Sciences.

Internal Committee

This week I attended Standing Rules Committee where we discussed the Compensation sections of Associated Students. I also attended Legislative Committee where appointments were discussed.

External Committee

From this quarter forward, I will no longer be attending the Admissions Committee since I was serving as a proxy for the Engineering Senator, Efran Martinez. So if you have any questions regarding that, please take a look at his weekly reports.

Summary

This week was spent talking to other Social Scienes student leaders to plan how this quarter will be in regards to expanding Outreach Hours, as well as establishing Students of the Social Sciences membership. In addition I also attended Standing Rules Committee and Legislative Committee.

Outreach Hour

For this week's outreach hour, I actually did it as combination with my Senator project, Students of the Social Sciences. I attended the executive board meeting for Women and Minorities in Economics (WAMIE) yesterday (Thursday, January 16) to let them know who I am as a senator and to introduce my ongoing project.

Senator Project Updates

As mentioned in the "Outreach Hour" section, I met with WAMIE to introduce to them Students of the Social Sciences and get input or feedback on that idea and where they would like to see it headed as a council.

Internal Committee

I attended Legislative Committee this week where we discussed the Sustainability document we had working on since Fall Quarter, as well as a new document we began last week.

External Committee

This week I didn't attend any external committees, but I did fill out a doodle poll to hopefully be available in February to attend the 2020 Commencement Committee.

Summary

For my Outreach Hour and as part of progressing my Senator Project, I visited WAMIE and introduced myself as their representative on Senate and the concept of Students of the Social Sciences. I attended Legislative Committee, and signed up to be part of the 2020 Commencement Committee.

01-22-2020

Outreach Hour

For this week, I had to postpone it to Week 5 since I was planning on attending another GBM this week as I did last week, but it had to be moved. I would really like to attend and meet as many Social Sciences student organizations as I can, so please let me know if you have any other ideas in regards to approaching the student body!

Senator Project Updates

I'm going to be meeting with John, the AS advisor tomorrow (Friday, January 24) to discuss further plans on how to gain more interest in Students of the Social Sciences. However, I have also been considering establishing a newsletter for the social sciences division, but I'm going to discuss that with Dean Padden in case something like that is happening, just not getting good reach.

Internal Committee

I attended Legislative Meeting this week where we approved an appointment and continued writing the AS Resolution Condemning Hate Speech.

External Committee

The time of the new 2020 Commencement Meeting was finally set for Tuesday, February 4 at 12:00-1:00pm.

Summary

I'm still in the process of meeting and attending student organizations within the social sciences division. I am also moving forward with Students of the Social Sciences by discussing more of the logistics with John, and the potential creation of a newsletter. Legislative Committee met this week and the time of 2020 Commencement Committee meeting was finally established.

Outreach Hour

For this week's outreach hour, I took a virtual approach and made a Facebook group with social science student leaders and asked them for feedback on subjects that came up in Senate last week and this week.

Senator Project Updates

For my project, I'm currently working on writing a survey for social science students to get a grasp on what the student demographic looks like in order to think of more projects and goals for my constituents.

Internal Committee

I attended Standing Rules Committee to discuss special rules of order, and I also attended Legislative Committee where we approved an appointment.

External Committee

I attended the first 2020 All-Campus Commencement Commuttee. If you have any ideas or thoughts, please reach out to me!

Summary

This week I created a Facebook group with social science student leaders for easier and more direct accessibility and communication. I decided to put out a survey to social science students to determine demongraphics and general thoughts on the division. I attended Standing Rules Committee, Legislative Committee, and 2020 All Campus Commencement Committee.
