About the Associated Students of UCSD (ASUCSD)

The Associated Students of the University of California, San Diego are the elected and appointed representatives of the UC San Diego student body. The ASUCSD works to promote student engagement through its services and leadership opportunities. The ASUCSD seeks to foster a cohesive community through active interaction and communication with students, the administration, and the greater San Diego Community. Our mission is to facilitate and encourage students to grow and develop through their involvement in student government, its services and auxiliaries. We promote student engagement in all areas of campus life through leadership, advocacy, and service in order to build and strengthen our community.

About the Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion: Women's Commission

The Associated Students Women’s Commission, as student activists and advocates are dedicated to improving the lives of all women on this campus regardless of race, age, sexual orientation, disability, financial constraint, parental status, political affiliation or religious affiliation.

Goals and Projects for 2016-17

  • The Women's Commission upholds the following principles: • To be a dynamic force in the fight for gender equity on this campus • To serve as a source of empowerment for the women of UCSD • To be a voice for women’s issues • To educate the campus community • To pursue goals through direct action organizing • To encourage diversity with regard to race, gender, age, sexual orientation and/or gender identity, disability, economic status, political affiliation, parental status, and/or religious affiliation within UCSD as well as the ASWC • To create a community that fosters support and open discussion • To improve the safety and general welfare of women on this campus

Open Staff Positions for the Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion: Women's Commission

Women's Commission Co-Chair

  • Shall act as an ex-officio member of the A.S. Council general meetings
  • Shall set the agenda and chair ASWC general body meetings
  • Shall possess a general knowledge of the duties of each office and provide guidance accordingly
  • Shall be one of two the official spokespeople of the ASWC
  • Shall facilitate the election of ASWC officers
  • Shall work with all officers to the set the agenda and chair ASWC general body meetings

Programming Coordinator

  • Shall act as a liaison to SARC and the UCSD Women’s Center
  • Shall draft the ASWC’s Annual budget for Spring Quarter
  • Shall be one of the two official spokespeople of the ASWC
  • Shall be responsible for planning Take Back the Night including finding speakers, merchandise, and reservations
  • Shall be responsible for additional programming for SAAM including the Clothesline Project

Community Outreach and Recruitment Coordinator

  • Shall work with publicity chair in the fall to attract new members
  • Shall facilitate events to unite members during meetings
  • Shall update the ASWC on external efforts pertaining to our organizational principles
  • Shall outreach to University, College and community groups to foster increased communication and collaboration
  • Shall be in charge of fall and winter programming
  • Including one campus-wide event
  • create a membership roster with contact information

Publicity Chair and Secretary

  • Shall take the minutes
  • Shall monitor attendance at general body meetings
  • Shall oversee internal communication through the list-serve
  • Shall fundraise for ASWC events, programs, campaigns and efforts
  • Shall create all marketing and recruitment materials in support of Co-Chair 2 and the Community Outreach and Recruitment Coordinator
  • Shall maintain official ASWC records
