Judicial Board
The Judicial Board is a body within the Associated Students of UC San Diego which hears grievances related to violations of the ASUCSD Constitution, bylaws, or election code. The Judicial Board is composed of 7 members, including a Chair and Vice Chair, who are appointed by the ASUCSD President and may serve until the end of their undergraduate careers.

When a grievance is submitted to the Judicial Board, the Chair, Vice Chair, and members will determine whether or not to grant a hearing. If an initial hearing is conducted for a case not related to elections, the Vice Chair and two members will hear arguments and issue a decision. Either party may choose to appeal the Judicial Board’s opinion but an appellate hearing is contingent upon the approval of the Board. In an appellate hearing, the Chair and remaining members will preside over the case and issue a decision. If a decision is being appealed from the Associated Students Election Committee, the case will be heard by the entirety of the Judicial Board. The procedures for each kind of hearing are as follows:
Grievance Hearing Procedure:
- Vice Chair introduces case (2 min)
- Complainant presents case, including witnesses (7 min)
- Accused cross-examines complainant and witnesses (7 min)
- Complainant re-questions any witness concerning issues discussed during cross examination (5 min)
- Accused presents case, including witnesses (7 min)
- Complainant cross examines accused and witnesses (7 min)
- Accused re-questions any witness concerning issues discussed during cross examination (5 min)
- Closing statements by complainant (3 min)
- Closing statement by accused (3 min)
- Vice Chair adjourns hearing and Judicial Board goes into closed deliberations (45 min)
Appeal Hearing Procedure:
- Chair of Appeals Committee introduces case (2 min)
- Appealing party provides grounds for appeal (5 min)
- Vice Chair speaks on behalf of Judicial Board (5 min)
- Members of Appeals Committee ask questions of both parties (20 min)
- Chair of Appeals Committee adjourns appeal hearing and goes into closed deliberations(45 min)
Elections-Related Appeal Hearing Procedure:
- Chair introduces case (2 min)
- Party filing appeal explains grounds for appeal (5 min)
- Chair of Election Committee speaks on behalf of Elections Committee (5 min)
- Members of Judicial Board ask questions of both parties (20 min)
- Chair adjourns appeal hearing and goes into closed deliberations (45 min)
